This is posted in numerous places on the www, but we may as well have it here is well. Following is the procedure to clear codes on a 3rd Gen Altima.

-Find a watch with a second hand
-Make sure car has sat for at least a minute with key off
-Turn key to 'On' position...NOT START
    -Wait 3 seconds
-Fully Depress & Release gas pedal 5 times within 5 seconds(this is now 8 seconds total)
-Wait 7 seconds(this is now 15 seconds total)
-Depress gas pedal fully & hold down
    -Watch 'Service Engine Soon'(SES) light
-When SES light starts to blink, release the gas pedal
-Depress gas pedal to floor and hold for 10 seconds
    -Release pedal and start car
-SES light should be off now, unless there is a code thrown again.

The 2nd Gen's just need a screwdriver!! Turn key till dash lights come on, Rotate screw in ECU box (next to accelerator pedal, behind a small removable panel) Clockwise about 1/2 a turn until CEL starts flashing. Step on accelerator pedal for 10 seconds. Turn screw back to original position. Turn key off. Restart motor, Code gone.
