    Post by bt2580 March 2nd 2009, 3:33 am

The Gen3 Altima can be made to flash diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) via the 'Service Engine Soon' (SES) Light. Following is the procedure to enter the diagnostic mode.

-Find a watch with a second hand
-Make sure car has sat for at least a minute with key off
-Turn key to 'On' position...NOT START
    -Wait 3 seconds
-Fully Depress & Release gas pedal 5 times within 5 seconds(this is now 8 seconds total)
-Wait 7 seconds(this is now 15 seconds total)
-Depress gas pedal fully & hold down
    -Watch 'Service Engine Soon'(SES) light
-When SES light starts to blink, count the blinks(you can release the gas pedal too)
***The car's computer will blink out a four digit code for EACH DTC stored in the computer.
***The first digit of each code blinks slowly, followed by a slight pause, fast blinks for second digit, pause, fast blinks for third digit, pause, fast blinks for fourth digit.
***The next code will start with slow blinks again.

-You can clear the codes and turn off the SES light by depressing the accelerator pedal and holding it down for 10 seconds. Start car.

    About Codes...
-When researching codes, add the letter 'P' in front of the 4 digit number
-10 blinks for any one digit = the number '0'
    IE..DTC 'P0420'
-10 slow blinks, pause, 4 quick blinks, pause, 2 quick blinks, pause, 10 quick blinks...
