you can take a picture of whatever you want. as long as you don't trespass to take the photo.
edit: unless it means standing in your yard and taking photos of your neighbor in their backyard. because their backyard is a place where they have a right to privacy. front yard is cool. but back to cars, a car parked on a public road is definitely free game. just don't look like you are casing the car to steal it. try to avoid going at night.
